So I've been working on a ridiculous lab report (I stupidly chose the exp't that was pretty much three in one) for the past 4 hours. I decided to take a break and crack open one of my many books.
I then proceeded to read the word "saliva" as suh-lee-vuh rather than suh-leye-vah.
I think my brain is trying to tell me to stop.

Disturbing
What is so disturbing you ask? Check out this tidbit of information that I gathered, courtesy of Wikipedia:
"Although “Yo Gabba Gabba!” was created as a show for young children, it has slowly become a sensation among college students and even some parents who are entertained by its retro/indie style, bright colors, simplicity, and entertaining music from many of the popular bands featured on the show."
So wrong, on so many levels.
That is all :)

On being a nerd...
So I find myself smack dab in the middle of finals week, sitting at my computer trying to find creative ways to procrastinate. It is because of this that this completely random post is coming straight to you from the jumbled mess commonly referred to as my brain.
For years I have been labeled a 'nerd.' Now, I don't have a problem with it, because essentially that is what I am. Most nerds are normal looking people that just happen to have, at least at one point in life, made excelling at school their number one priority. Note that I say at one point in life, this is because it is no longer my major goal in this world. Frankly after a few years away from the comfort blanket that is the Valley, I've found that achieving happiness is what matters most to me. Granted, I may achieve it by getting my dream job (pediatrician, as you already know) or by becoming fully skilled on the guitar, but at this point my road to happiness remains to be seen. Oh wow, I totally got pretend-philosophical on you guys...sorry, let me get back to my point.
Being a nerd has become almost common in society and has even found a little niche in entertainment (see The Big Bang Theory and Heroes). Now those people have found a way of applying their status as a nerd to their everyday lives. So my question is...How has being a nerd seeped into your life?
Most Monday nights, you can find me in front of my TV watching the Big Bang Theory, which is a show centered around, you guessed it, nerds. Now there was a Halloween episode that aired, where Sheldon was dressed as the Doppler Effect. Once that was made clear, the first thing that I found pop into my mind was:
The apparent change in the frequency of a wave that is caused by the difference in velocities of the object emitting the wave and the observer.
Now tell me that there isn't anything wrong with that. All I wanted to dow as kick back and enjoy some TV, but instead I made myself feel nerdy.
I need to start getting out more because this is getting ridiculous. When I'm wondering if I can store wine in the freezer and I answer myself with a:
No, it doesn't have a high enough alcohol content to keep the water from freezing and expanding
instead of just simple:
No, because it will explode
I know I need to start taking preventative measures.
PS: Good luck to everyone studying for finals/midterms/tests/whatever. Hope you have awesome Spring Breaks, and if you go anywhere...bring me back a magnet! :)

That's just how my brain works...
So super short, completely random post that I wanted to get out there. The only reason it's here and not on twitter/facebook is because it takes too many characters to write out.
Anyway...let me set the scene: After dinner, chilling on the couch with the Aunt and cousins, watching the end of the movie that we started before we ate. Please keep in mind that I am paraphrasing.
(We were watching Up In the Air)
Movie: George Clooney's character finally man's up and is on his way to see his leading lady.
-Epic Travel Sequence Ensues-
Me: Wouldn't it be funny if she had a family?
Gian: You mean like a husband.
Me: Yeah exactly. Kids, husband, house.
Caren: Why would you think that?
-George Clooney, looking super happy and gorgeous as usual, walks up a snow covered street to her house-
Me: Well look, she's living in a townhouse. If she were single it would be an apartment. What would a single person need with a house?
-Door Opens-
Woman opens door, appalled at who she finds.
Behind her, kids (that's right plural) are running up the stairs.
Cue husband who asks the cliche "Honey who's at the door?"
She shoots George a look, then closes the door while speaking with her husband.
Cut to George Clooney's devastated look.
Did I call it or what?

The Birthday Blog
Soooo for those of you who know me well (or those of you that pay attention to Facebook) my 22nd birthday was this past week. So the following as a breakdown of said week:
Monday: I had another tutoring session with a student that I've taken on who goes to the JC in the area I live. Anyway, as a little present/b-day week kick-off I went to Red Robin before the session, equipped with my free birthday burger coupon. Even though my birthday wasn't until Friday, it is Lent which means that meat on Fridays is a no-no, so I fit it in on monday. Can I just say Whiskey River Burger=YUM. My waitress was amazing and at the end of my meal, she brought me a sundae (again YUM) and even gave me some balloons to help my early birthday celebration. I must admit that my inner 12/13/14 year old was absolutely giddy when I left.
Tuesday: My first day of errands, Vegetable lasagna and groceries needed for pasta salad were gathered in preparation for the upcoming party.
Wednesday: Sadly nothing particularly birthday-centric occurred.
Thursday: See Wednesday.
Friday:I picked up my bestie Ness from the Greyhound station and went to the mall for lunch and a quick window shopping session with said bestie and one of my cousins. Then the major birthday errands were dealt with. We went to the store to pick up a few miscellaneous things...garlic bread to go with the lasagna, a few liters of soda, a Swiffer sweeper that I ended up returning the next day because I didn't know that there was already one in the house and finally somethings for dinner that night (which turned out to be fettucini alfredo and garlic bread)...Once those things were gathered, the real shopping began, in other words we made a beeline for the alcohol. We didn't get much, just some things for pina coladas and a case of Smirnoff Ice. All-in-all it was a very successful shopping trip.
Later on that night, I enjoyed my birthday drink with Ness and the cousin.

Also, I was watching the short track 500M speed skating finals, and all i have to say is that Apollo Ohno was robbed. Yeah his hand was on the other guys hip but there was no pushing involved. And also, where was the review of the Canadian skater? His actions were so clearly a push that if Ohno was dq'ed then that guy should have been as well.
Saturday (Party Day!!): Yay! In the morning my Dad and little brothers made their appearances. We spent the morning picking up copies of Lego Rockband and The Beatles: Rockband to provide the fun for the party (which it did much to everyone's amusement).
The party was amazing and there was even a mini elementary school reunion that took place:

Here is proof that Rockband was a hit:

We ended the night with a few intense rounds of Mafia...which were amusing to say the least. Notice the looks of intense concentration on the players faces and the smiles on those who had already been off'ed. Friendships can be made or broken because of that game.

Oh and for those who are interested, I give you...
The Final Drink Count:
5 shots of Bicardi Dragonberry (YUM!!!!!!!!!)
2 Pina Coladas (a certain someone added enough rum to the second that it may as well have been all alcohol)
2 Seagrams Sweet Tea Vodka & Apple Juice
2 Cans of Coors Light (Kings Cup, I lost, 'nough said...btw beer w/ ice was surprisingly tasty)
I don't know if you think that's a lot or not, but I stand firm by the statement that I was not "schwasted" but rather incredibly buzzed. But I do admit that when I woke up the next morning there were a few "I can't believe I said thats" that ran through my mind.
Overall I'm thinking that this was a pretty epic birthday.

Just something to pass the time...
So every year in San Diego, February is designated Museum Month. This means that with a voucher/booklet/pass thing that you pick up at Macy's you can get half off the price of admission to pretty much every museum in SD. Now, February's just about halfway over and because of the dreaded 'm' word (midterms) I haven't really been able to take advantage of this. However, I gave myself Friday off and decided that I would drag my cousin Kay-kay (who actually had the day off) to Balboa Park. We originally we just going to go to the SD Natural History Museum, but we decided to tack on the greenhouse garden thing because it was still early and it was free. And of course, I went with camera in hand so I could capture all the fun and whatnot that went on.
Part One: San Diego Natural History Museum
There are few things more fun than looking at dinosaur bones and running around the displays like a 13y.o.

Part Two: The Botanical Building
I cannot express how amazing it smelled in there, and the orchids (as you can see below) were huge and in full bloom.

Oh and one more thing.....HAPPY (BELATED) BIRTHDAY Paulina!!!!!
.....also, please note that I meant to have this post up Sunday (so the above greeting would have been on time) but I couldn't find the USB cable for my camera until this morning.

*GASP* An actual post?
Yes it is true. I finally made the time to clutter the internet with another one of my useless posts. As you can see, I'm on blogger now, rather than wordpress. Its mainly because posting pictures here is a ton easier than it was on the other site. So without further delay, here is the actual post:
So I spent this weekend trying to ease myself out of the PChem lab mindset and into a Midterm one. So of course, that meant kicking off the midterm rush with my final hours of procrastination. Lucky I had this amazing Christmas present (courtesy my awesomest former roomie) to keep me company.
This seriously has to be my favorite modern book right now. (I say modern because To Kill a Mockingbird will always be my favorite book). So anyway, I was enjoying my downtime when, I come across this little bit of amazing...
Seriously I cant say it enough...Best Christmas gift EVER!
Anyway so I was able to tear myself away from the amazingness that is 'Just Listen' and the dreaminess of Ethan Peck to find another means of procrastination. So while watching Top Gear via Youtube (darn you BBCAmerica for not providing full length episodes) I made a nifty pair of gloves. Too bad its probably going to be too warm to wear them.
So that was what I was up to, for those of you that care...I'll be back soon with the next half-interesting thing going on with my life.
